This 2 day bent stick chair course is a wonderful deep dive into rural craft furniture traditions. Also known as a Gypsy Willow Chairs, they are a comfortable statement piece for both indoor and sheltered outdoor spaces. Elegantly held together with nails, themselves an ancient craft, these chairs are a celebration of the humble stick & nail.
During this course, you’ll learn the traditional techniques behind bent stick chair making in willow: forming a strong willow sub-frame; steam bending or free form bending the stickwork around pre-made rounding jigs to form the arms, back and finally a comfortable seat. The focus is on honest construction, good proportions, and time-tested methods.
This course is suitable for beginners and perfect for those who want to step into rustic furniture making and gain skills that can be built on for years to come.
